Looking for a meaningful and paid internship this summer? Community Science may be your answer!

We are seeking an enrolled graduate student to work full time this summer, from approximately June 1 until August 31, 2017, to support research and evaluation tasks for national and local initiatives across the U.S. You will work with our staff who assist public agencies, foundations, and non-profit organizations to transform research and evaluation findings into knowledge they can apply to address social problems such as poverty, racial inequity, health and economic disparities, substance abuse, juvenile justice, and trauma. You will be exposed to the inner workings of a consulting firm that is committed to social justice and that works to bridge science with practice. You will learn about practices for applying research methods to real world problems and situations. You must be well organized, have high standards for your work, and be committed to scientific rigor and progressive social change.

Compensation will be based on an hourly rate according to level of knowledge and skills. Benefits including health insurance are available.

Qualifications:       

  • Currently pursuing  a Master's or doctoral degree in psychology, public health, urban planning, sociology or other social science;
  • Evaluation or research experience and knowledge in at least one of the following areas behavioral or physical health disparities, health equity, community development, or systems change approaches to violence prevention, trauma-informed care, or juvenile justice;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in collecting data (e.g., telephone interviews, focus groups, survey administration);
  • Analysis skills, including coding of interview and focus group data, cleaning and basic analysis of quantitative data, and extraction and organization of archival data;
  • Proficiency in data analysis software programs such as STATA, Atlas Ti, or ArcGIS;
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills; and
  • Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and meet strict deadlines.
